Nanna and Papa at the ocean
Nanna and Papa came to spend a lovely weekend with the four of us. We had a wonderful time just like we always do. Denny and I had the chance to get away for a 24 hour kid free vacation. We stayed in a hotel downtown. Went to the musical Evita. Then went out and ate a warm meal and enjoyed some adult conversation. After that we slept through the night. No one woke us up because of monsters or teething pain. Then we woke up and drank warm coffee with no one needing anything from us and ate a warm breakfast. Oh it was really wonderful but we were excited to get home to the kids and nanna and papa. We all spent some time at the splash pad and pool. We also took our first trip to Galveston. The kids played on the beach and in the ocean for the first time.

Lady Lumps
In January I found out that my older sister Renae was diagnosed with stage four breast and bone cancer. I was immediately very sad for her and her/our family. No one wants to hear this kind of news.
I decided that I wanted to get my first mammogram. Usually doctors don't recommend this until 35. I am just months away from 35 and now have a family history so my OB sent me to get one on March 28th. A week went by and I got the results in the mail. There was a spot and it needed to have further testing. I was warned at the mammogram that this often happens and not to worry it is usually nothing. It wasn't the news I wanted to hear but I wasn't terribly worried at this point.
A week later I went in for the ultrasound. It started with a ultrasound tech. Then the tech and a radiologist. Then a tech and two radiologist and I knew this was not going like I wanted. I was scheduled for a needle biopsy two days later.
April 10th- Needle Biopsy... The worst part of this procedure was the numbing shot. I felt a lot of pressure and every time the doctor took a piece of the spot it made the sound that an ear piercing gun does. That is a bit startling when you are trying to lay still in an uncomfortable position for a long period of time. Now the biopsy is done and I have to wait for the results. Those were some of the longest days I have ever had!
April 15th- Results came in.... I knew it was the doctors voice on the phone and my heart was pounding out of my chest waiting for what she had to say. I had gone over this conversation a thousand times in my head waiting for it to happen thinking there were two options. 1. I am so happy to tell you it is benign. Or 2. I am so sorry it is cancer. I was not expecting the answer I got. I have good news and bad news for you. Good new is - the spots that were removed are benign. ( I am thinking Yippy! how can there be bad news with that?) Bad news is- It is something called a complex sclerosing lesion or radial scar which is high risk and we can not determine that it is cancer free until we do a lumpectomy and test the whole thing.
May 9- Surgery day. Lumpectomy to have the lesion removed.
I am posting this for two reasons. One. because this blog is a story of my children's life growing up and this is now a part of that story. Two. Dear friends and Dear family please please get your mammograms! My spot was small and would have been very early stage. My sisters battle is a longer one.

May 20th - Follow up appointment. I was sick to my stomach going into this appointment just wanting to know what the results were. I get in there and the nurse is so sweet and soft spoken I was thinking "shit it's cancer". Then the doc comes in she is very happy and gives me a hug so I thought "yes it has to be good news". Unfortunately the results were not back yet and my wait was not over. Doc Lee felt terrible that she can't tell me anything yet. She checks my incision and sends me on my way.
May 21st- 6 am doc calls and it is cancer free!!!! I am so blessed and so happy!

Ike's PPCD Field Day
Ike's preschool had field day today. There were bubbles, balls, bikes and a lot more activities to keep all the little ones happy.
Ike's class minus one. His buddy Jude that he talks about all the time and plays very well with is third from the left. His other two buddies are Andres (to the left of Ike) and Mykah (last on the right).
Left to Right: Miss Liz, Mr. Sean (class aides) and Ms. Bravo (teacher).
Ike has made amazing progress in two months of PPCD and I am thankful for these three and all they do for him. He may not look it in the picture but he loves school and his teachers.
